"Pop Star Haunting in 'Smile 2' Thrills Audiences, Earns $2.5 Million in Previews"

Smile 2 is expected to make between $20 million and $25 million in its opening weekend, with some projections even higher. The first film, made for a streaming release, had a surprisingly strong $22.6 million opening in 2022 and went on to become a sleeper hit, grossing $105 million domestically and $217 million globally.

Smile 2 follows Skye Riley (Naomi Scott), a world-famous pop star who becomes the latest target of the demonic force that causes its victims to smile maniacally and then kill themselves. The film follows Skye as she embarks on a comeback tour and slowly loses her grip on reality.

Also opening this weekend is the buzzy indie film Anora, from director Sean Baker. Anora is about a stripper who falls in love with the son of a Russian oligarch. The film has been generating Oscar buzz and opens in limited release this weekend.
