Box Office Report: "Venom: The Last Dance" Sees Slower $22 Million Opening Day, Lagging Behind Previous Films in the Series Sony’s highly anticipated “Venom: The Last Dance” opened this weekend, but it didn’t bring the thunder expected from the latest chapter of the hit anti-hero franchise. With a $22 million take across Friday and preview screenings from 4,131 theaters in North America, the film’s debut is well below the franchise’s earlier entries. This underperformance has sparked concerns for the future of the “Venom” series and Sony’s broader strategy for its Marvel anti-heroes. The original "Venom" movie in 2018 enjoyed a $32 million opening day, while its 2021 sequel, "Venom: Let There Be Carnage," outdid that with a $37 million first day.  Harvey Weinstein Diagnosed with Cancer, Source Says

Exclusive: Former Film Mogul Battles Chronic Myeloid Leukemia

Harvey Weinstein, the disgraced former film producer at the center of the #MeToo movement, has been diagnosed with cancer, a source close to the incarcerated mogul has confirmed.

According to the source, Weinstein is battling chronic myeloid leukemia (CML), a type of cancer that forms in the bone marrow and can eventually spread to the blood. He is currently undergoing treatment at Rikers Island in New York City.

While Weinstein's spokesperson, Juda Engelmayer, declined to comment on the diagnosis, his attorney, Arthur Aidala, has not yet responded to inquiries.

Craig Rothfeld, Weinstein's prison consultant and authorized legal health care representative, has dismissed speculation surrounding the diagnosis, stating that such private health matters should remain confidential.

The news of Weinstein's cancer diagnosis comes just months after he underwent emergency heart surgery. Despite his health challenges, Weinstein has continued to fight legal battles, including a recent not guilty plea to a new charge of criminal sex act.

What is Chronic Myeloid Leukemia (CML)?

CML is a rare type of cancer that is characterized by the overproduction of abnormal white blood cells. While it is typically a slow-growing disease, it can become acute if left untreated.

Targeted therapies have made significant strides in treating CML, but the disease can still be challenging to manage. Roughly 15% to 30% of people with CML may develop acute myeloid leukemia, a more aggressive form of the disease.

Impact on Weinstein's Legal Battles

The cancer diagnosis raises questions about Weinstein's upcoming trial, where he faces charges of sexual assault and rape. It remains unclear how his health condition may affect his ability to participate in the proceedings.

As Weinstein continues to battle both his health and legal challenges, the #MeToo movement remains a powerful force, demanding accountability for survivors of sexual abuse and harassment.
